Taina was born in Romania but has lived in London for most of her life. After reading philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford and LSE, and working as focus puller, gaffer and spark on dozens of shorts, she went to Prague to study cinematography at FAMU.
Since then she has shot drama, documentaries, music videos and art installations in Britain, America, the Balkans and India, on a wide selection of film and video cameras. She has made films for Channel 4, Disney and the UK Film Council.
In 2007 Taina was selected for the Berlin Talent Campus, and in 2008 her short film, Minerva, won at the London International Creative Competition (LICC). Two of her UK Film Council shorts were chosen for their Digital Generation programme, and one of them, Fyzal Boulifa’s Whore, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Angers Film Festival. She was second unit DoP on the feature film Break My Fall, and has just shot a feature length documentary about Bo Gritz, the man who inspired Rambo. Next year, she will be DoP on Restaurante, a Mexican feature directed by Gabylu Lara.
Taina is both an imaginative and analytical filmmaker, and is at her happiest when collaborating with a director to create the images that will articulate a strong story. She operates on all her work.
