Suhayla completed an MA in screenwriting at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2005. Her screenplay FATIMA'S VISIT was optioned by Picture Palace and she is currently working on her first commissioned screenplay STARLESS NIGHTS OF TRAVEL with Jeva Films. She has had treatments and pilots, commissioned by BBC Switch, CBBC and C5 and is a writer on the BBC soap DOCTORS.

Suhayla also writes for the stage, last year she set up Paper Planes, a night of short plays at The Nightingale Theatre in Brighton and took part in CABARET ON A SINKING SHIP, a devised ensemble piece, also at The Nightingale. She is now working on a full-length play, CUCKOO, and is curator of the Young Writers' Programme at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
