NICKY BENTHAM'S BIOGRAPHY
Nicky Bentham (née Moss) was recently a producer on the sci-fi thriller MOON, starring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey. Following a Sundance premiere the film was released internationally by Sony Pictures Classics, and has proved both a critical and commercial success, picking up the top prizes at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the British Independent Film Awards as well as a BAFTA. Prior to this Nicky teamed up with Kurt Engfehr (co-producer Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11) to produce the BAFTA nominated feature documentary TAKING LIBERTIES, which fused animation, archival and documentary footage to examine how the war on terror has affected civil liberties.
Nicky started her career as a production assistant in her native Sydney, before relocating to the UK in 2001 to pursue film production roles and, eventually producing opportunities. While producing several acclaimed short films, she worked in production on independent films for Sky, Scion Films, Scottish Screen, UK Film Council and Ingenious before going on to work as a producer with Revolver, Liberty Films and EMI. Having produced successfully for other production companies, Nicky established Neon Films in 2008 to produce films under her own banner. Neon is developing a diverse slate of quality films for international audiences, current projects include:
· NOW YOU SEE IT, a bright and playful kids’ film written by David Lemon (Faintheart) which is currently being developed with the UK Film Council;
· THE LYING TONGUE, an adaptation of Andrew Wilson’s hauntingly dark novel about a literary mystery and a death in Venice; and
· BLACK SHEEP a savage thriller about a teenage boy who gets involved in a robbery only to find himself the victim of an horrific and unexpected crime.
