DAVID ALEXANDER BIOGRAPHY

After working in the film industry for several years David wrote and directed his breakthrough short film GROWING. The film was shot in East London where David grew up, and developed through a series of workshops with a group of young actors from a local youth club. Upon its release the film received wide praise and won the Time Out Best Short Film Award, as well as the B3 Creativity Showcase Best Short Film Award.

Shortly after David was invited to the attend the Berlin Film Festival Talent Campus, and in addition to the main programme David was invited to participate in the Berlin Angels Day mentoring programme, patroned by WIM WENDERS. David was also additionally invited to attend the Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab.

Following on from GROWING, David wrote and directed his follow up short film FOURTEEN for the UK Film Council. Shortly after David was invited to attend the Tribeca Film Festival Industry All Access Programme, and was awarded a Tribeca All Access / 46664 Nelson Mandela Foundation Artist Award, which in conjunction with financial support from Working Title Films, David used to make his third short film, PROMISE.

Recently David has been selected to direct a new short film, FOLLOW, for the UK Film Council and Film London. He’s also been selected for development initiatives run by both Film4 and BBC Films, and recently he’s been selected to be mentored by director KEVIN MACDONALD.
